कर्नाटक में 18वीं शताब्दी में मैसूर के विवादित शासक रहे टीपू सुल्तान की जयंती शुक्रवार को कड़ी सुरक्षा के बीच मनाई गई। जयंती को मद्देनजर रखते हुए राज्य में सुरक्षा के कड़े इंतजाम किये गए थे। राज्य में टीपू सुल्तान की जयंती को लेकर बीजेपी सहित कुछ हिंदूवादी संगठनों और व्यक्तियों ने प्रदेश की कांग्रेसी सरकार द्वारा टीपू की जयंती के कार्यक्रमों के आयोजन के विरोध में प्रदेश भर में विरोध प्रदर्शन किये।
टीपू सुल्तान की जयंती मनाए जाने का बैसे तो बीजेपी सहित कुछ हिंदूवादी संगठन हर साल विरोध करते हैं, लेकिन इस बार मोदी सरकार में केंद्रीय मंत्री अनंत कुमार हेगड़े द्वारा टीपू को खुलकर ‘हिंदू विरोधी’ करार दिए जाने बाद इसे लेकर सोशल मीडिया पर भी काफी बहस चल रही है।
टीपू सुल्तान हत्यारा या स्वतंत्रता सेनानी?
देश भर में टीपू सुल्तान के स्वतंत्रता सेनानी होने या ना होने पर चल रही बहस के बीच एक इतिहासकार ने एक नया पक्ष रखा है। इतिहासकार इरफान हबीब के मुताबिक 18वीं सदी के मैसूर शासक टीपू सुल्तान न तो स्वतंत्रता सेनानी थे और न ही तानाशाह।

उनमें से बहुत से इतिहासकार इस बात पर सहमत हैं कि टीपू इतिहास में ब्रिटिश औपनिवेशिक विस्तार के प्रतिरोध के प्रतीक हैं। कर्नाटक में टीपू सुल्तान की विरासत को लेकर सत्तारूढ़ कांग्रेस और विपक्षी भारतीय जनता पार्टी (बीजेपी) के बीच शब्दों के तीर चलाए गए हैं।
क्या दक्षिण का औरंगजेब और बलात्कारी था टीपू सुल्तान?
कोंग्रेसी जिस टीपू सुल्तान को मैसूर का शेर कहते है, उसे देश के केंद्रीय मंत्री बलात्कारी क्यों बता रहे हैं इसकी कोई बजह जरुर होगी। टीपू सुल्तान जिसे इतिहास ब्रिटिश सेना को धूल चटाने के लिए याद करता है उस टीपू सुलतान की हकीकत कुछ और ही थी।
टीपू सुल्तान धर्मनिरपेक्ष शासक नहीं था बल्कि वह एक असहिष्णु और निरंकुश शासक था। वह दक्षिण का औरंगजेब था जिसने लाखों लोगों का धर्मांतरण कराया और बड़ी संख्या में मंदिरों को गिराया।

टीपू सुल्तान एक वहशी बलात्कारी था जिसने दक्षिण में हिन्दुओं का कत्लेआम किया, उसने अपनी तलवार पर खुदवाया था कि, “या खुदा मुझे इतनी ताकत दे कि मैं हिन्दुस्तान के सभी हिन्दुओं का कत्ल कर सकूँ। कांग्रेसी उसी बलात्कारी और हिन्दुओं के हत्यारे की जयंती मना रहे है।
