नागा साधूओं का इतिहास भारतीय सनातन धर्म के वर्तमान स्वरूप की नींव आदिगुरू शंकराचार्य ने रखी थी। शंकर का जन्म ८वीं शताब्दी के मध्य में हुआ था जब भारतीय जनमानस की दशा और दिशा बहुत बेहतर नहीं थी। भारत की धन संपदा से खिंचे तमाम आक्रमणकारी यहाँ आ रहे थे।
कुछ उस खजाने को अपने साथ वापस ले गए तो कुछ भारत की दिव्य आभा से ऐसे मोहित हुए कि यहीं बस गए, लेकिन कुल मिलाकर सामान्य शांति-व्यवस्था बाधित थी। ईश्वर, धर्म, धर्मशास्त्रों को तर्क, शस्त्र और शास्त्र सभी तरह की चुनौतियों का सामना करना पड़ रहा था। ऐसे में शंकराचार्य ने सनातन धर्म की स्थापना के लिए कई कदम उठाए जिनमें से एक था देश के चार कोनों पर चार पीठों का निर्माण करना।
यह थीं गोवर्धन पीठ, शारदा पीठ, द्वारिका पीठ और ज्योतिर्मठ पीठ। इसके अलावा आदिगुरू ने मठों-मन्दिरों की सम्पत्ति को लूटने वालों और श्रद्धालुओं को सताने वालों का मुकाबला करने के लिए सनातन धर्म के विभिन्न संप्रदायों की सशस्त्र शाखाओं के रूप में अखाड़ों की स्थापना की शुरूआत की।
नागा साधूओं का इतिहास-
आदिगुरू शंकराचार्य को लगने लगा था सामाजिक उथल-पुथल के उस युग में केवल आध्यात्मिक शक्ति से ही इन चुनौतियों का मुकाबला करना काफी नहीं है।
उन्होंने जोर दिया कि युवा साधु व्यायाम करके अपने शरीर को सुदृढ़ बनायें और हथियार चलाने में भी कुशलता हासिल करें। इसलिए ऐसे मठ बने जहाँ इस तरह के व्यायाम या शस्त्र संचालन का अभ्यास कराया जाता था, ऐसे मठों को अखाड़ा कहा जाने लगा। आम बोलचाल की भाषा में भी अखाड़े उन जगहों को कहा जाता है जहां पहलवान कसरत के दांवपेंच सीखते हैं।

कालांतर में कई और अखाड़े अस्तित्व में आए। शंकराचार्य ने अखाड़ों को सुझाव दिया कि मठ, मंदिरों और श्रद्धालुओं की रक्षा के लिए जरूरत पडऩे पर शक्ति का प्रयोग करें। इस तरह बाह्य आक्रमणों के उस दौर में इन अखाड़ों ने एक सुरक्षा कवच का काम किया।
कई बार स्थानीय राजा-महाराज विदेशी आक्रमण की स्थिति में नागा योद्धा साधुओं का सहयोग लिया करते थे। इतिहास में ऐसे कई गौरवपूर्ण युद्धों का वर्णन मिलता है जिनमें ४० हजार से ज्यादा नागा योद्धाओं ने हिस्सा लिया। अहमद शाह अब्दाली द्वारा मथुरा-वृन्दावन के बाद गोकुल पर आक्रमण के समय नागा साधुओं ने उसकी सेना का मुकाबला करके गोकुल की रक्षा की।
नागा साधू नागा साधुओं की लोकप्रियता है। संन्यासी संप्रदाय से जुड़े साधुओं का संसार और गृहस्थ जीवन से कोई लेना-देना नहीं होता। गृहस्थ जीवन जितना कठिन होता है उससे सौ गुना ज्यादा कठिन नागाओं का जीवन है।
बहुत ही कम लोगों को ज्ञात है कि औरंगज़ेब को लगातार 30 युद्ध नागा साधुओं ने हराये थे।
नागाओं से जुड़ी कुछ महत्वपूर्ण जानकारी-
1. नागा अभिवादन मंत्र :
ॐ नमो नारायण
2. नागा का ईश्वर : शिव के भक्त नागा साधु शिव के अलावा किसी को भी नहीं मानते।
*नागा वस्तुएं : त्रिशूल, डमरू, रुद्राक्ष, तलवार, शंख, कुंडल, कमंडल, कड़ा, चिमटा, कमरबंध या कोपीन, चिलम, धुनी के अलावा भभूत आदि।
3. नागा का कार्य : गुरु की सेवा, आश्रम का कार्य, प्रार्थना, तपस्या और योग क्रियाएं करना।
4. नागा दिनचर्या : नागा साधु सुबह चार बजे बिस्तर छोडऩे के बाद नित्य क्रिया व स्नान के बाद श्रृंगार पहला काम करते हैं। इसके बाद हवन, ध्यान, बज्रोली, प्राणायाम, कपाल क्रिया व नौली क्रिया करते हैं। पूरे दिन में एक बार शाम को भोजन करने के बाद ये फिर से बिस्तर पर चले जाते हैं।
5. सात अखाड़े ही बनाते हैं नागा : संतों के तेरह अखाड़ों में सात संन्यासी अखाड़े ही नागा साधु बनाते हैं:- ये हैं जूना, महानिर्वाणी, निरंजनी, अटल, अग्नि, आनंद और आवाहन अखाड़ा।
6. नागा इतिहास : सबसे पहले वेद व्यास ने संगठित रूप से वनवासी संन्यासी परंपरा शुरू की। उनके बाद शुकदेव ने, फिर अनेक ऋषि और संतों ने इस परंपरा को अपने-अपने तरीके से नया आकार दिया। बाद में शंकराचार्य ने चार मठ स्थापित कर दसनामी संप्रदाय का गठन किया। बाद में अखाड़ों की परंपरा शुरू हुई। पहला अखाड़ा अखंड आह्वान अखाड़ा’ बना।
7. नाथ परंपरा : माना जाता है कि नाग, नाथ और नागा परंपरा गुरु दत्तात्रेय की परंपरा की शाखाएं है। नवनाथ की परंपरा को सिद्धों की बहुत ही महत्वपूर्ण परंपरा माना जाता है। गुरु मत्स्येंद्र नाथ, गुरु गोरखनाथ साईनाथ बाबा, गजानन महाराज, कनीफनाथ, बाबा रामदेव, तेजाजी महाराज, चौरंगीनाथ, गोपीनाथ, चुणकरनाथ, भर्तृहरि, जालन्ध्रीपाव आदि। घुमक्कड़ी नाथों में ज्यादा रही।
8. नागा उपाधियां : चार जगहों पर होने वाले कुंभ में नागा साधु बनने पर उन्हें अलग अलग नाम दिए जाते हैं।
1. इलाहाबाद के कुंभ में उपाधि पाने वाले को नागा,
2. उज्जैन में खूनी नागा,
3. हरिद्वार में बर्फानी नागा
तथा
4. नासिक में उपाधि पाने वाले को खिचडिया नागा कहा जाता है। इससे यह पता चल पाता है कि उसे किस कुंभ में नागा बनाया गया है। उनकी वरीयता के आधार पर पद भी दिए जाते हैं।
कोतवाल, पुजारी, बड़ा कोतवाल, भंडारी, कोठारी, बड़ा कोठारी, महंत और सचिव उनके पद होते हैं। सबसे बड़ा और महत्वपूर्ण पद सचिव का होता है।
10. कठिन परीक्षा : नागा साधु बनने के लिए लग जाते हैं 12 वर्ष।
नागा पंथ में शामिल होने के लिए जरूरी जानकारी हासिल करने में छह साल लगते हैं। इस दौरान नए सदस्य एक लंगोट के अलावा कुछ नहीं पहनते। कुंभ मेले में अंतिम प्रण लेने के बाद वे लंगोट भी त्याग देते हैं और जीवन भर यूं ही रहते हैं।
11. नागाओं की शिक्षा और दीक्षा : नागा साधुओं को सबसे पहले ब्रह्मचारी बनने की शिक्षा दी जाती है। इस परीक्षा को पास करने के बाद महापुरुष दीक्षा होती है। बाद की परीक्षा खुद के यज्ञोपवीत और पिंडदान की होती है जिसे बिजवान कहा जाता है।
अंतिम परीक्षा दिगम्बर और फिर श्रीदिगम्बर की होती है। दिगम्बर नागा एक लंगोटी धारण कर सकता है, लेकिन श्रीदिगम्बर को बिना कपड़े के रहना होता है। श्रीदिगम्बर नागा की इन्द्री तोड़ दी जाती है।
12. कहां रहते हैं नागा साधु : नाना साधु अखाड़े के आश्रम और मंदिरों में रहते हैं। कुछ तप के लिए हिमालय या ऊंचे पहाड़ों की गुफाओं में जीवन बिताते हैं। अखाड़े के आदेशानुसार यह पैदल भ्रमण भी करते हैं। इसी दौरान किसी गांव की मेर पर झोपड़ी बनाकर धुनी रमाते हैं।
नागा साधू बनने की प्रक्रिया-
नागा साधु बनने की प्रक्रिया कठिन तथा लम्बी होती है।
नागा साधुओं के पंथ में शामिल होने की प्रक्रिया में लगभग छह साल लगते हैं। इस दौरान नए सदस्य एक लंगोट के अलावा कुछ नहीं पहनते। कुंभ मेले में अंतिम प्रण लेने के बाद वे लंगोट भी त्याग देते हैं और जीवन भर यूँ ही रहते हैं। कोई भी अखाड़ा अच्छी तरह जाँच-पड़ताल कर योग्य व्यक्ति को ही प्रवेश देता है। पहले उसे लम्बे समय तक ब्रह्मचारी के रूप में रहना होता है, फिर उसे महापुरुष तथा फिर अवधूत बनाया जाता है।
अन्तिम प्रक्रिया महाकुम्भ के दौरान होती है जिसमें उसका स्वयं का पिण्डदान तथा दण्डी संस्कार आदि शामिल होता है। शाही स्नान से पहले नागा साधु पूरी तरह सज-धज कर तैयार होते हैं और फिर अपने ईष्ट की प्रार्थना करते हैं। नागाओं के सत्रह श्रृंगार लंगोट, भभूत, चंदन, पैरों में लोहे या फिर चांदी का कड़ा, अंगूठी, पंचकेश, कमर में फूलों की माला, माथे पर रोली का लेप, कुंडल, हाथों में चिमटा, डमरू या कमंडल, गुथी हुई जटाएं और तिलक, काजल, हाथों में कड़ा, बदन में विभूति का लेप और बाहों पर रूद्राक्ष की माला 17 श्रृंगार में शामिल होते हैं।

नागा साधू सन्यासियों की इस परंपरा मे शामील होना बड़ा कठिन होता है और अखाड़े किसी को आसानी से नागा रूप मे स्वीकार नहीं करते। वर्षो बकायदे परीक्षा ली जाती है जिसमे तप , ब्रहमचर्य , वैराग्य , ध्यान ,सन्यास और धर्म का अनुसासन तथा निस्ठा आदि प्रमुखता से परखे-देखे जाते हैं। फिर ये अपना श्रध्या, मुंडन और पिंडदान करते हैं तथा गुरु मंत्र लेकर सन्यास धर्म मे दीक्षित होते है इसके बाद इनका जीवन अखाड़ों , संत परम्पराओं और समाज के लिए समर्पित हो जाता है, अपना श्रध्या कर देने का मतलब होता है सांसरिक जीवन से पूरी तरह विरक्त हो जाना , इंद्रियों मे नियंत्रण करना और हर प्रकार की कामना का अंत कर देना होता है कहते हैं की नागा जीवन एक इतर जीवन का साक्षात ब्यौरा है और निस्सारता , नश्वरता को समझ लेने की एक प्रकट झांकी है ।
नागा साधुओं के बारे मे ये भी कहा जाता है की वे पूरी तरह निर्वस्त्र रह कर गुफाओं , कन्दराओं मे कठोर ताप करते हैं ।
प्राच्य विद्या सोसाइटी के अनुसार “नागा साधुओं के अनेक विशिष्ट संस्कारों मे ये भी शामिल है की इनकी कामेन्द्रियन भंग कर दी जाती हैं”।
इस प्रकार से शारीरिक रूप से तो सभी नागा साधू विरक्त हो जाते हैं लेकिन उनकी मानसिक अवस्था उनके अपने तप बल निर्भर करती है।
विदेशी नागा साधू सनातन धर्म योग, ध्यान और समाधि के कारण हमेशा विदेशियों को आकर्षित करता रहा है लेकिन अब बडी तेजी से विदेशी खासकर यूरोप की महिलाओं के बीच नागा साधु बनने का आकर्षण बढ़ता जा रहा है।
उत्तर प्रदेश में इलाहाबाद में गंगा, यमुना और अदृश्य सरस्वती के संगम पर चल रहे महाकुंभ मेले में विदेशी महिला नागा साधू आकर्षण के केन्द्र में हैं।
यह जानते हुए भी कि नागा बनने के लिए कई कठिन प्रक्रिया और तपस्या से गुजरना होता है विदेशी महिलाओं ने इसे अपनाया है।
आमतौर पर अब तक नेपाल से साधू बनने वाली महिलाए ही नागा बनती थी। इसका कारण यह कि नेपाल में विधवाओं के फिर से विवाह को अच्छा नहीं माना जाता। ऐसा करने वाली महिलाओं को वहां का समाज भी अच्छी नजरों से भी नहीं देखता लिहाजा विधवा होने वाली नेपाली महिलाएं पहले तो साधू बनती थीं और बाद में नागा साधु बनने की कठिन प्रक्रिया से जुड़ जाती थी।
नागा साधू कालांतर मे सन्यासियों के सबसे बड़े जूना आखाठे मे सन्यासियों के एक वर्ग को विशेष रूप से शस्त्र और शास्त्र दोनों मे पारंगत करके संस्थागत रूप प्रदान किया।
उद्देश्य यह था की जो शास्त्र से न माने उन्हे शस्त्र से मनाया जाय । ये नग्न-अवस्था मे रहते थे , इन्हे त्रिशूल , भाला ,तलवार, मल्ल और छापा मार युद्ध मे प्रशिक्षिण दिया जाता था ।
इस तरह के भी उल्लेख मिलते हैं की औरंगजेब के खिलाफ युद्ध मे नागा लोगो ने शिवाजी का साथ दिया था नागा साधू जूना के अखाड़े के संतों द्वारा तीनों योगों- ध्यान योग , क्रिया योग , और मंत्र योग का पालन किया जाता है यही कारण है की नागा साधू हिमालय के ऊंचे शिखरों पर शून्य से काफी नीचे के तापमान पर भी जीवित रह लेते हैं, इनके जीवन का मूल मंत्र है आत्मनियंत्रण, चाहे वह भोजन मे हो या फिर विचारों मे ।
महाराज शिवाजी जब औरंगज़ेब की कैद से निकले तो उन्होंने भी नागा साधु का ही वेश धारण किया था।
इस प्रकार मैं दावे के साथ कह सकता हु की नागा साधू सनातन के साथ साथ देश रक्षा के लिए भी अपने प्राणों की आहुति देते आये है और समय आने पर फिर से देश और धर्म के लिए अपने प्राणों की आहुति दे सकते है।

I’m amazed, I have to admit. Seldom do I come across a blog that’s both educative and engaging, and without a doubt, you’ve hit the nail on the head. The problem is something not enough people are speaking intelligently about. Now i’m very happy I came across this during my search for something regarding this.

The biggest issue is the dialogue, it is a little cheesy at times and doesn’t give the actors much to work with, but I wouldn’t say it’s every time they open their mouth just some lines in the movie are a little rough.
